Local Content in 2025
These numbers are based on:
- Data collected and collated by Recorded Music NZ for the purpose of the Official Aotearoa Music Charts, reflecting unit based data from a wide range of physical and digital retailers, audio streaming services and other outlets (such as gig sales)
- Radio airplay data collected and analysed by Recorded Music NZ under its brand Radioscope
- Units i.e. spins, streams and unit consumption not revenues.
Recorded Music NZ provides data reporting services and insights to a number of government bodies and industry organisations, including NZ On Air, APRA AMCOS NZ, Te Māngai Pāho, NZ Music Commission, Radio Broadcasters Association and Independent Music NZ. Recorded Music’s data analysis is used by NZ On Air and the RBA for the Local Content Code which encourages designated Code radio stations to play at least 20% New Zealand music.
*This number reflects spins across all radio, not limited to those stations which are part of the Local Content Code.
